According to the Times-Picayune, New Orleans will receive a 4th round pick from Kansas City in exchange for RB Michael Bennett. New Orleans had also reportedly been offered a 4th rounder by St. Louis, but the Saints preferred not to trade Bennett to an NFC team. With the Chiefs, Bennett will back up incumbent starter Larry Johnson with Priest Holmes out with a back injury......

The NFL Network has announced that it will be airing this year’s All-American Classic all-star game from Las Vegas. The network had earlier announced that it would be broadcasting this year’s Senior Bowl from Mobile. The Las Vegas game, featuring numerous second-tier pro prospects, is scheduled for 4 PM ET, Monday January 15th at Sam Boyd Stadium......

The New York Jets have announced the resignation of John Griffen, the team’s college scouting co-ordinator.....

Houston DE Mario Williams, the first player taken at the 2006 draft, missed practice yesterday because of an infection in one of his toes. In fact, it's the second time Williams has had issues with his toes since being drafted. Williams had the toenails on both of his big toes removed in June, although the current problem is not related to the earlier procedure and is on another toe....

Sources at Oklahoma are reporting that Sooners’ sophomore QB Rhett Bomar will not play this season aftr reportedly violating NCAA rules by working at a private business and taking payment over an extended period of time in excess of time actually worked.....

Auburn has suspended LB Kevin Sears, an interesting second-tier type prospect for the 2006 draft, has been suspended from the for the Tigers' first three games this season. As a result of being arrested on alcohol-related charges last year. Sears was found guilty in early July on charges of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and public intoxication stemming from an incident last November.....

Just to confirm a number of dates on the NFL calendar. The 2007 draft is scheduled for the weekend of April 28th and 29th this coming spring. Also, for the record, this winter’s scouting combine in Indianapolis runs from February 21st through the 27th. And this fall’s roster cut-down dates are set for August 29th and September 2nd. The latter, of course, is the date teams have to be down to their original 53-man opening season rosters. However, unlike recent years when teams had to be down to 65-man rosters, the limit on the first date has been raised to 75 men.....
