22 DAYS TILL KICKOFF

The deal earlier this week which saw the New York Jets acquire RB Lee Suggs from Cleveland in exchange for CB Strait has been voided after Sugs failed his physical with the Jets. And that leaves the still very thin at RB with the career of veteran back Curtis Martin, who is currently on the on the physically-unable-to-perform list because of a lingering knee injury.....


Tampa Bay has placed TE T.J. Williams, a 6th round pick at the 2006 draft, on injured reserve because of an achilles' injury suffered earlier this year.....

San Francisco has traded DB Mike Rumph, the 49ers' #1 pick in 2002, to Washington for WR Taylor Jacobs, the Redskins second round pick in 2003.....


Arizona QB Matt Leinart, the 10th player selected at the 2006 draft and the last remaining unsigned first round pick from this year’s draft, ended his two-week holdout and signed with the Cardinals. Leinart reportedly signed a six-year deal which could be worth as much as $51M, although only $14M is quaranteed.....

They are holding their collective breaths in Minnesota however it doesn't look good for LB Chad Greenway, the Vikings' #1 pick at the 2006 draft. Greenway, the 17th player selected this year, left last night's exhibition game with Oakland in the first quarter because of an injury to his left knee. Greenway will have an MRI this morning, but indications last night were that it could be a season-ending tear to his anterior cruciate ligament.....


CFB NEWS AND NOTES

According to the school, Montana RB Lex Hilliard has suffered a serious foot injury and will miss the season. The 228-pound Hilliard, who already has almost 3,000 career rushing yards, plans to redshirt and play again next fall at Montana.....


Southern California FB Brandon Hancock, a decent second tier prospect for the 2007 draft, will have surgery for ligament damage in his left knee and won't be able to play this season. Hancock, who also had knee surgery in 2004, is out of eligibility and reportedly plans to train for the draft once he’s healthy.....


The NCAA has declared South Carolina FS Brandon Isaac ineligible to play in the Gamecocks' first three games because of problems with his academic transcripts from Georgia Military College, a two-year junior college he attended in 2003 and 2004. The 6-2, 190-pound Isaac is a marginal prospect for the 2007 draft.....


Arkansas CB Darius Vinnett, another marginal prospect for the 2007 draft, will miss about five weeks after undergoing knee surgery. As a result, Vinnett will miss at least Arkansas’ season opener against USC next month.....
