NFL NEWS AND NOTES

NFL Network reports that the Saints' offer to Colts restricted free agent CB Jason David was not matched, making him part of the Saints. The Saints will send a fourth-round pick to the Colts as compensation.....

Reserve QB Brock Berlin has agreed to a deal with the Cowboys, reports the Dallas Morning News. Berlin has worked with new Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett in the past in Miami, and will provide organizational depth in training camp this summer.....

The Rams have traded a fifth-round pick to the Chiefs in exchange for WR/KR Dante Hall. Hall is considered an excellent returner on special teams and can be used as a slot receiver as well. "We have filled a need with one of the top players in football at his specialty, returning punts and kicks," said Rams head coach Scott Linehan in a statement. "Dante will fit in nicely on our special teams and can be utilized as a receiver in certain situations."....

The Lions signed three players on Wednesday including free-agent WR Marcus Robinson, who spent most of 2006 with the Vikings. Robinson caught 29 passes for 381 yards and four TDs last year but was plagued by back problems. He'll compete for a roster spot in training camp. They also signed free agent WR Cliff Russell as well as their own restricted free agent CB Keith Smith.....
Atlanta owner Arthur Blank has reportedly ‘ordered’ his football management team to do whatever it takes to move up from the #8 draft spot in order to get hometown star Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson. Of course in order to move up far enough to get Johnson, the Falcons will have to almost assuredly get the #2 pick overall, if they don’t go to #1 and that will likely cost them their 2008 first rounder… Denver may have something cooking with Houston to swap the 10th and 21st picks. Its not clear if I moving up the Broncos are interested in primarily a player like Ole Miss LB Patrick Willis at #10 or whether Denver has bigger fish to fry; that is they’d like to move up even further, again likely to that #2 spot to get Johnson… Chicago and Miami may work something out over franchised Bears’ LB Lance Briggs involving a swap of the 9th and 31st picks. And like the Broncos, the Bears may make this move a stepping stone to go even higher as Chicago is rumored to be interested in moving up to get Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn…While Oakland reportedly has made no contract offer to either of LSU QB Jamarcus Russell or WR Johnson, the Raiders have reportedly made what some are calling a low-ball offer to Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn. Nobody really expects Quinn to be the Raiders choice with the #1 pick, however, they may be setting the bar very low for the other top two players; i.e., ask too much and we’ll take Quinn, who by some reports new Raiders’ head coach Lane Kiffin actually prefers anyway. The Raiders, though, only have a couple of days to take advantage of the right to negotiate with players prior to the draft.
