CFB SUNDAY NIGHT

If you didn’t get their fill of football Sunday afternoon might want to check out the Hawaii Bowl later this evening which will be featuring the most prolific offense in college football. Indeed, the home-town Hawaii offense, led by record-setting junior QB Colt Brennan, averaged 47 points per game this year. They’ll face a challenge from a quality Pac 10 opponent, though, in Arizona State.....

Hawaii Bowl, Honolulu; 8 PM ET; ESPN

Hawaii (10-3) vs Arizona State (7-5)
Buckle up your seat belts because tonight's Hawaii Bowl match up between home-town Hawaii and Arizona State should be a high scoring affair. In particular, Hawaii which will be featuring one of the most prolific offenses in college football as the Warriors will chuck the ball all over the lot with junior QB Colt Brennan (#15, 6-2, 190) throwing to super sophomore WR Davone Bess (#7, 5-9, 185). Brennan, for example, threw for almost 5,000 yards this fall and 53 scores, while the elusive Bess had 91 receptions. They work behind a big offensive line anchored by rugged C Samson Satele (#64, 6-2, 310), who should be one of the first Cs off the board at the 2007 draft: Satele works alongside OTs Tala Esara (#70, 6-4, 295) and Dane Uperesa (#72, 6-5, 330).. The offense also has an intriguing prospect in bowling bowl RB Nate Ilaoa, a 250-pound converted WR who is averaging 8.6 yards per rush this fall. The defense isn’t anywhere near as talented but does have a good one in FS Leonard Peters (#42, 6-1, 200), who was granted an extra year of eligibility after tearing up a knee in the Rainbows’ season-opener last fall, while DEs Melila Purcell (#98, 6-5, 265) and Ilaika Alama-Francis (#91, 6-5, 250) both look the part of stud two-way defenders.

For its part, Arizona State also has a top underclass receiver in junior TE Zach Miller (#86, 6-5, 255), who is expected to be the first TE off the board this coming April if he opts to leave school early this winter. In fact, ASU was also supposed to light things up this year, however, sophomore QB Rudy Carpenter (#12, 6-2, 205) struggled through an inconsistent season after veteran Sam Kellar left for Nebraska. Whether the Sun Devils can match the Warriors point for point though may depend on how well the ASU defense holds. The unit, though, does have a number of experienced players who pro scouts will be watching including safety Zack Catanese (#5, 6-2, 222), DE Kyle Caldwell (#50, 6-1, 260), and CB Keno Walter-White (#5-11, 185), although only Catanese rates as more than a marginal prospect.
