NFL NEWS AND NOTES

Fast Willie Parker carried 32 times for a single-game franchise record 223 yards and a touchdown in Week 14 against the Browns. He is also closing in on the single-season record of 15 rushing touchdowns.


Dolphins coach Nick Saban has turned down an offer from the University of Alabama that would have paid him $5 million per year and would have included a $7 million bonus.....


The Falcons and representatives for defensive end Patrick Kerney have begun contract extension talks, Kerney confirmed Thursday. No deal will be consummated until January — at the earliest — because of the team's tapped-out salary cap.....

It has become a hot topic lately to talk about whether Garrard, who's having a tremendous season in place of the injured Byron Leftwich, has shown enough to be the Jaguars' quarterback for good. If he has, then the Jaguars do whatever they can to get rid of Leftwich this summer and give Garrard the keys to the franchise.....

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is any doubt that Brad Johnson will continue to be the starting quarterback when the Vikings, still in contention for a playoff spot, play at Detroit on Sunday.....


The Broncos soon will be dealing with six unrestricted free agents at season's end: offensive guard Cooper Carlisle, defensive tackle Michael Myers, special team mainstays Keith Burns and Patrick Chukwurah, reserve defensive lineman Kenny Peterson and backup receiver/returner Quincy Morgan.....


When Hall had a bad day in Cleveland on Sunday, misjudging a kick and getting slapped with a costly taunting penalty, fans were clamoring for coach Herm Edwards to make a change. Actually, they’ve been doing that for months. But the venom has grown, and Hall’s dander was really up earlier this week when some local TV people took turns bashing him.....

Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow said the thought of being a college head coach is intriguing, but it doesn't consume him. Chow, in his second season with the Titans, interviewed with officials at North Carolina State and Arizona State this week about their head coaching vacancies.....
